Dirt Devil Vacuum Cleaners - So Much More Than the Little Lightweight Units That Made Them Famous

The series of new Dirt Devil Vacuum Cleaners cover the vast spectrum of model types to fit the needs of any consumer. The Dirt Devil vacuum was not the beginning of this company, but just a new strategic approach by a company that had been around since 1905.

The idea of a light weight unit did not originate in the 1980s with the Dirt Devil. This company developed their first hand held vacuum cleaner back in 1937 with the introduction of the Royal Prince. But like all great American companies, it stopped producing consumer items and switched to military hardware as part of the war effort to help support our troops in World War II.

This company has always been producing quality vacuum cleaners, no matter who owned the company. The first buyout by investors was in 1953 by the Walter E. Schott Organization. But as investors do, they were not happy with their acquisition, despite having a good product and great sales. In 1954, a group of employees purchased the rights to the company under the leadership of Stan Erbor.

The company thrived under his leadership in which he was active until his death in 1981. This is when another group of investors were able to purchase the company. From this group, came the introduction and development of the modern Dirt Devil we all know about. The group of investors and their marketing campaign had $5 million in sales in their first year. This grew to $208 million by the year 2000.

Today, there are over 23 million handheld Dirt Devil Vacuum Cleaners that have been sold. This brand is available today in all major department stores and independent vacuum shops of the consumer to make their purchase.
